TIME : 1 hour

THEME/TOPIC: Your Experience (Scary /Horror Experience)

LANGUAGE FOCUS Writing, Vocabulary, Speaking

AIMS / LEARNING OBJECTIVES : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to 
a) Identify 2-3 types of imagery as used to describe some scene/person/object.
b) Write down at least five sentences by using descriptive writing.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS : Projector, Computer, Youtube Videos

PROCEDURE:   

Set Induction

1. Teacher plays a video (Experience in A Haunted House) from Youtube.
                                    
                                     Ellen & Andy Visit the 'IT' Haunted House


2. Teacher asks students to watch the video for 2 minutes.
3. After two minutes, students are needed to write down their opinion in Padlet about what they saw and heard from the video.
4. Students to jot down words in Padlet that convey what they visualize, hear, see or experience in their imagination.



5. Teacher shares what they wrote on the big screen. 
6. The words will be written on the board to form clusters.


Lesson 1

1. Teacher projects the learning objective on the board.
2. Teacher asks the students and see if anyone can connect this to the activity done above and teacher introduces 5 types of imagery-visual,gustatory, tactile,auditory and olfactory.

3.Teacher shows a few pictures of haunted house on the slideshow.







4.Teacher inquires from them how these different types of imagery create different experiences.
5.Students to look at the words they have written and add more adjectives to make them more descriptive individually.
6.They will work in pairs try to describe their experience of being in a haunted house using these 5 types of imagery.
7. Teacher leads a discussion on whether all experiences of the imagined a haunted house scene are the same. 
8. Students recognize that each person’s experience has been different depending what kind of a learner they are. Did some only see visuals of the haunted house, some only heard the sounds of the screaming, etc.
9. Teacher puts up on the projector, a descriptive passage from a horror story or scary experience.Then, teacher briefly discusses what is being described-the main idea and the effect created by the imagery.

10. Student volunteers to come up and highlight the 3 types of imagery that they can spot in the passage. (Teacher rewards student who volunteers with stars).
11.Students discuss the word choices as a whole class and see how the effect would alter if some words changed.
12. Students are shown a website where they can learn on how to write a horror or scary story.

Activity 2
13. Students are asked to choose think of any scary experience that they have endured and students have to describe what they felt during that selected experience (at least 5 sentences) They are to imagine further and include auditory as well as olfactory imagery. 
14. Students are needed to post the answers on the Padlet. 
15. Teacher presents the students work on the Padlet.

Conclusion
16. Teacher emphasizes the importance of imagery and how it affects a story.
17. Teacher reminds the students to write an essay about their horror or scary experience as their homework.
17. Teacher encourages students to read more stories to get ideas on how to write descriptive writing.
